St. Peter's - Reenvisioned

digital recreation of unrealized renaissance drawings

St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City (begun 1506, completed 1626), is a world-renowned example of High Renaissance and Baroque architecture.
Many key facets of its design (especially the dome) are credited to Michelangelo. However, numerous architects played a role in the project's development during its over century-long construction, including but not limited to Raphael, Antonio da Sangallo the Younger, and the building's original architect, Donato Bramante.
The drawings pictured above likely depict Bramante's original design
When he died, this concept for a 42.5 meter-wide dome was ultimately modified by subsequent architects.
This project studies these drawings (and the figures and historical context surrounding them) to create a 3-D model of Bramante's original dome.
