TRUST A TRUSS, CLEAR A CREEK

MINIMALLY PROCESSED MASS TIMBER WORKFORCE HOUSING

WHAT WOULD WOOD?
Trust a Truss, Clear a Creek is a communal housing project to provide living, working, and playing spaces for the families and employees of Tahoe Forest Products in Clear Creek, Nevada.
Using the mouth of a local creek as a focal point for design, the building is composed of minimally processed, locally sourced wood, engaging with the landscape geometrically and materially.
A CAREFUL STUDY OF WILD WOOD
Clear Creek (and the greater Tahoe region) is ecologically vulnerable
A number of study models and material analyses were completed (IN COLLABORATION WITH sIMMONE sTEARN) to maximize the utilization of whole, otherwise discarded trees while minimizing labor
Ultimately, Jeffrey pines were selected as the primary material source for their abundance, size, physical qualities, and proximity.
Additionally, the structural makeup of the building eliminates the need for heavy machinery.
